The right to vote and eligibility

General elections:

Foreigners have the right to vote at general elections in the Faroes if they have already become a Danish national, are over 18 and listed in the voters´ register in their municipality. These are also the main criteria for eligibility. Before elections the municipality sends all listed voters a personal card to prove their right to vote. If you have not been posted such a card, please turn to your municipal registry office for information.

Municipal elections:

Foreigners have the right to vote at municipal elections in the Faroes if they are over 18 and have been registered as residents in their local municipality for the last 3 years, and are listed in the local voter´s register. Before elections the municipality sends all listed voters a personal card to prove their right to vote. If you have not been posted such a card, please turn to your municipal registry office for information.
